Laying down in a bed of moss, Emeraldflame panted. The brown tabby she-cat felt warm sweat running down from her head, soaking her fur. Hurry up, kits! I can't take this any longer!
"Push, Emeraldflame!" Their medicine cat, Meadowheart, shouted.
Emeraldflame took a deep breath and pushed. Ripples passed through her body and her eyes widened until Meadowheart saw their white edges. As Emeraldflame stopped pushing and started to pant again, a little kit came out. "You did it, Emeraldflame! It's a beautiful she-cat!" Meadowheart congratulated her.
Emeraldflame, taking deep breathes so she could catch her breath, finally relaxed herself and twisted her head around to see her new she-kit she had helped bring into the world. "She has a white stripe on her back like me," she purred. Suddenly her fear and pain was gone, replaced by overwhelming love for her new daughter.
Meadowheart nodded and turned to the entrance of the medicine den. "Shortstem, your she-kit has been born!"
"A she-kit?" a tom's voice mewed. A white figure padded through the ferns from the medicine den's entrance and stared at his mate, his eyes glowing with love. "She looks beautiful! Almost looks just like you!"
Emeraldflame chuckled. "No, dear, she has silver fur, not brown tabby fur," she pointed out, "but she has my white stripe." She began to lick her kit, making it warm. The kit squealed in anger as it was being licked and crawled to its mother's belly for milk to suckle for milk.
"Let's call her Whitekit," Shorstem mewed, his tail twitching. "I would like to name it after her white stripe on her back." Emeraldflame nodded. "That's a beautiful name,"
"I will give you two some privacy." Meadowheart mewed, padding out of her den. "Make sure Emeraldflame drinks a lot of water." Shortstem nodded, not taking his eyes off of his new daughter.
Meadowheart sighed, enjoying the cool night's fresh air. She stared at the night sky as the StarClan members sparkled happily, watching over their Clanmates. A new she-kit has been brought into this world without any problems. she prayed silently to StarClan. Thank you.
As if in reply, a blazing white star flew across the sky. Meadowheart gasped as she noticed that there were red and orange flames around it. She froze, noticing that it was heading straight towards her! No! It will destroy the camp! she thought with panic. The white light grew bigger and bigger, until it was barely a whisker away from Meadowheart's whiskers. The medicine cat whirled around and stepped in front of the medicine den, hissing, her golden tabby fur bristling with rage at the thought of protecting her Clanmates. I will protect my Clanmates, even if it means risking my life! but then the strange blazing star suddenly vanished into thin air, the flames turning smaller and smaller, until they finally disappeared. Meadowheart blinked as she saw Sunpaw staring at her as if she had turned into a fox, ready to kill Whitekit. "Meadowheart, are you...all right?" the orange tom asked. "You looked like you were defending the medicine den for some reason."
Meadowheart blinked, shaking her head to get rid of the vision. "I'm fine, dear. You should go back to sleep." If Sunpaw did not see the blazing star, then that could only mean one thing..StarClan had sent me a warning. But what was it about?
"If you say so. And I'm not tired," Sunpaw mewed, staring at the night sky. The moonlight made his orange fur glow white."I have been having dreams of having kits with a mate. The kits were a son and a daughter. My son had been killed by a cat, but he tried to defend himself bravely." his eyes were glittered with worry, and he looked so exhausted that he nearly fell off of his paws.
Meadowheart stared at Sunpaw in horror. StarClan, if you are sending this poor apprentice these terrible dreams, please make them go away! He doesn't deserve them! "Maybe it means you want a mate," she suggested. "Are you mooning over one at the moment?"
Sunpaw tilted his head thoughtfully. "Yes, actually," he mewed. "I...I like Twilightpaw," he shuffled his paws with embarrassment. "I try to be with her on patrols, but she never notices me." There was such sadness in his tone that Meadowheart felt sorry for him. "Perhaps before you go to sleep, you two should go out for a walk. But you must tell me when you go out, so I will know. By then that should be enough alone time for you to confess your feelings for her."
Sunpaw looked at her, warmth filling in his eyes. "Thank you, Meadowheart. If you were allowed to have a mate, you would have been a good mother." the orange tom began to pad away and head to the apprentices' den.
Meadowheart grunted, then narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. Those visions had something in common..the blazing star...myself defending the medicine den bravely....brave! Being brave! she thought. But why would being brave be a part of a prophecy? Perhaps BreezeClan is the most bravest Clan in the entire forest? Embarrassment flooded through her. That's ridiculous. BreezeClan may be brave, but StarClan wouldn't praise us like that from a prophecy. Then she remembered Sunpaw mentioning his 'son' being murdered by a cat. For some reason, I have a feeling that my vision of the blazing star is connected to Sunpaw's dreams. But as she thought, everything started to add up. Meadowheart defended the medicine den bravely against the blazing star. It appeared just after Whitekit had been born. Will Whitekit bring danger to the Clan? she fretted. StarClan, she's only a newborn kit! But she couldn't ignore StarClan's signs. She knew, with a terrible chill along her back, that Whitekit may be a part of a prophecy. A certain prophecy Meadowheart will not appreciate.
StarClan, what will Whitekit do to our Clan?
The prologue is up! Doing two fanfics at once!
